Third Grade Happenings

Happy Fall! Now that the weather’s turning cooler, please remember to write your child’s name in his or her jackets or sweaters. Our “Lost and Found” closet starts to fill up quickly, so take an extra minute to check it if you’re missing anything.

Here’s a sample of what we’ll be working on this month:

Writing workshops: perfecting the writing process from beginning to end. How you can help at home: Have your child make up a story about a place they would like to visit one day. Ask questions to encourage creative details. Telling good stories leads to writing good stories! cool

Reading Centers: We’re getting into a good routine for our Reading Centers in the mornings. We will continue to read our chapter books and work on Literacy Maps together. How you can help: Ask questions about the stories.

Math: We are progressing well with our timed multiplication quizzes. Be sure to quiz your child on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Flash cards are a great way to help with memorizing multiplication facts, too.

Science: Mad Scientist Day is October 5, and I am putting the finishing touches on my costume! I am excited for our day of experiments. If you are a classroom volunteer, please remember that these experiments will likely be MESSY! Dress accordingly! smiley

Social Studies: The “Sunshine State Shoeboxes” are due on October  26. Remember: details, details, details! The more creative and in depth the shoeboxes are, the better! If you have any questions about them, please call or email me. I’d be happy to give you some suggestions.

Dates to Remember:

10/05: “Mad Scientist Day” Don’t forget to wear your most creative costume!

10/19: No school; Teacher Planning Day. Enjoy your break!

10/23: “All Hands Day” Come volunteer in our workroom, or let me know if you could work on projects at home, instead!

10/26: We will have a substitute teacher in our classroom while I attend a workshop. Please remind your student to follow ALL classroom rules while I’m away. I look forward to seeing you all at our Conference Day on November 5. If you need anything before then, please feel free to call. I'm enjoying being with your children so much! Their personalities are really beginning to shine!
